I am at my brother’s place now, because he’s on vacation for a few days, so I am staying here and feeding & entertaining his cat until Wednesday. And his cat? Needs lots of attention!

Because of this, I have essentially already finished packing to move to Heidelberg. I will not be back home until Wednesday [my house is close-by but as I will be at work during the day anyway, I don't want to leave Da Vinci by himself even longer] and we are leaving on Thursday morning so I don’t have much time left for packing.

In other news, I got my hair cut. I wanted to do this for a while now, and yesterday I decided finally to go for it, especially as I won’t really be home much until next weekend [my mom cuts my hair]. It’s quite short now - originally I didn’t want it that short but my mom did a cut that was more layered than the last so it looks shorter.

On Wednesday I went to Julia’s new place to hang out with her. She just moved into an apartment with our friend Tanja. It’s actually the apartment Tanja and her mom used to live in when we went to high school so I knew the apartment but I was curious to see what Julia did with her room. I always love seeing what others do with their rooms, how they arrange the furniture, how they decorate it - I guess to get ideas for myself. Last night I hung out with Sylvia, just to chat and catch up.

I am really tired now. I just found out two days ago that I would be catsitting for my brother until Wednesday, so I was really busy the past two days packing everything. I am kind of glad I am done now, even though the main work will have to be done in Heidelberg on Thursday moving most of my stuff from the old house’s attic to the new house.

Today I met up with my sister and her kid. We had lunch at her place and then we were going to go to the Isar river to enjoy the sun. Or so was the plan. What I didn’t know was that my sister was planning to cross the river - by wading through it. The water was shallow so that was no problem. I was wearing flip flops, no problem either. Or so I thought. Until I lost one in the current. Luckily I was able to grab it before it floated off. Well, skip to a minute later. When I lost both shoes at once. Clearly I was not able to grab both, so one floated off in the river.

I was pretty annoyed because hello? Not only were these some of my fave flip flops [inexpensive Old Navy ones, but we don't have Old Navy here so they are not that easily replacable], I was also now shoeless. [I still had one but what was I going to do with one shoe.] Also? Wading through a river barefoot? Painful. Very painful. So I decided that instead of crossing, I’d go back. My nephew was already on the other side at this point, so my sister and I discussed what to do. I really didn’t want to cross the river - I was thinking, next thing I’ll probably stumble and fall or something and then it’s goodbye cellphone, mp3 player, digital camera. After a while we noticed this teal something floating about 100 yards from us down the river. Sure enough, my shoe. There was no current there, so it was just floating and not moving. My sister rescued the shoe for me, so I am after all not shoeless, but it was kind of traumatizing nonetheless. So since my sister didn’t want to come back to the this side of the river [as her kid and all of their stuff was already on the other side] and there was no way I was going to lose my shoes again or possibly drown my electronic devices [knowing me there's a good chance I would have], we ended the afternoon early. Crappy but I’ll hopefully be able to make it up to them soon.

Anyway, after this traumatizing event of my shoe going suicidal on me, I did retail therapy which helped me recover from my near-loss. I originally went downtown to get a birthday present for a friend [and I did get that as well] but I also got some stuff for myself. Stuff being three pairs of shoes, a jacket and a nice shirt. Want to see what I got? Of course you do!
