Hi, I’m Viviane, 25 years old, German and I just moved back to Munich from Barcelona, Spain. I lived there for about 10 months as an Erasmus (exchange) student. I am now spending the summer in Munich doing an internship at the American cultural institute. I will move back to Heidelberg when the next semester starts in October.
Originally I am from Munich, I was born and grew up there with my parents and my “little” brother, Chris, who is 22 years old now. I left in the fall of 2002 to go to college in Heidelberg. I love Munich, I usually go home every couple of months during the semester breaks to hang out with my family and friends and just enjoy the city, as it is really one of a kind in Germany. I also like living in Heidelberg, it’s a beautiful city but a lot smaller than Munich and I sometimes miss being in a bigger city.
So I am now into my sixth year of university, majoring in English and Spanish Literature. What is taking me so long, you wonder? Actually in Germany studying for this long is pretty normal, and since I started my Spanish major a year after my English major (I had started out with English/Economics, what a bad idea that was!) and spent a year abroad in the States (where I was not able to take any Spanish classes), I have really only just finished my fourth year of Spanish Lit, so I am taking a while. I do plan to finally graduate with an MA in the spring of 2010, though.
As I mentioned I lived in the States for a year, July 2004 to June 2005, I lived in Norman, OK and went to OU. I had a blast there, and still miss my friends and the school loads. I haven’t been back to visit yet but I hope I will be able to at some point in the next couple of years.
Some of the things I really enjoy doing are hanging out with my friends, cooking or going out for dinner, seeing movies, or just chatting for hours on end, reading books (I am a Lit major after all! I also worked in a bookstore for over a year in Heidelberg before moving to Barcelona, best student job I could wish for!), photography (I am by no means professional, I just like snapping pictures of random beautiful things), running (or so I tell myself, I want to stay or actually become fit, but I have to remind myself to stick to running regularly), listening to good music, learning foreign languages (I just wish it was easier!), writing (though besides blogging I do not write regularly, unfortunately, that is something I want to get into more often), and I also like shopping way too much (very bad for my bank account and restraining myself does not always work)!
Because I have lived in four different places which are several hundred or even thousand miles apart, my friends may not all be living close to me, but they are close to me in my heart.
