Today I met up with my sister and her kid. We had lunch at her place and then we were going to go to the Isar river to enjoy the sun. Or so was the plan. What I didn’t know was that my sister was planning to cross the river - by wading through it. The water was shallow so that was no problem. I was wearing flip flops, no problem either. Or so I thought. Until I lost one in the current. Luckily I was able to grab it before it floated off. Well, skip to a minute later. When I lost both shoes at once. Clearly I was not able to grab both, so one floated off in the river.
I was pretty annoyed because hello? Not only were these some of my fave flip flops [inexpensive Old Navy ones, but we don't have Old Navy here so they are not that easily replacable], I was also now shoeless. [I still had one but what was I going to do with one shoe.] Also? Wading through a river barefoot? Painful. Very painful. So I decided that instead of crossing, I’d go back. My nephew was already on the other side at this point, so my sister and I discussed what to do. I really didn’t want to cross the river - I was thinking, next thing I’ll probably stumble and fall or something and then it’s goodbye cellphone, mp3 player, digital camera. After a while we noticed this teal something floating about 100 yards from us down the river. Sure enough, my shoe. There was no current there, so it was just floating and not moving. My sister rescued the shoe for me, so I am after all not shoeless, but it was kind of traumatizing nonetheless. So since my sister didn’t want to come back to the this side of the river [as her kid and all of their stuff was already on the other side] and there was no way I was going to lose my shoes again or possibly drown my electronic devices [knowing me there's a good chance I would have], we ended the afternoon early. Crappy but I’ll hopefully be able to make it up to them soon.
Anyway, after this traumatizing event of my shoe going suicidal on me, I did retail therapy which helped me recover from my near-loss. I originally went downtown to get a birthday present for a friend [and I did get that as well] but I also got some stuff for myself. Stuff being three pairs of shoes, a jacket and a nice shirt. Want to see what I got? Of course you do!

Pretty shoes! And they seem pretty comfortable too.

Plastic shoes! They are not Crocs, they are Sketchers, and they are pretty! And so comfortable! And should I ever have to wade through rivers again, I have a good pair of shoes that will not float off my feet now. Also, they were 75% off. Can’t say no to that!

Plain black heels. I have been looking for a pair like this for forever. And these are perfect. Not too pointy toes, I hate having my toes squished, heels but the kind you can still walk in.

I also got this lovely shirt. I had no plans to buy a shirt [but then originally I didn't have plans to buy any of the other things either], but this one was really pretty and I actually do not have that many dressy shirts so I didn’t feel bad buying it.

Then I got this black jacket, something to add to the respectable work clothes closet along with the black heels. And it was only €15! I will probably wear this at an interview I have coming up in a few weeks.
Sooo, I did spend a bit of money but I do not feel too guilty as these are all actually useful things. Not a 20th pair of flip flops or too casual clothes [which I have plenty of].

Oh man, I can totally picture that whole crossing the river scene. I would have definitely reacted the same way you did…including the retail therapy ;) Nice buys! I really like that shirt (and I’m not the biggest fan of pink.)
