You may wonder where all my posts went. Well, my dear friend Randy, who is hosting my blog for me, moved hosts, and I decided to use that for a fresh start so I just started from scratch. I did import the latest post and the comments on it, but everything else is gone.
Another novelty, for me more than anyone, is that I have signed up for NaBloPoMo - National Blog Posting Month. Which means that for the month of November I will (try to) post every day. Should be interesting. A nice challenge for me to try to think of something new and interesting to write about and to get back to more regular posting. And all that without boring you all to death in the process.
And finally, a little meme which could be very fun and interesting … The replies may or may not will probably be used during NaBloPoMo to give me some writing material. Unfortunately I am not quite the natural blogging talent like Alyndabear who is a fellow NaBloPoMoer, a very nice person and whose blog I can very much recommend - it’s a fun read — so help me out a little please.
Give me the meme already you had better say? Okay, here it is:
Request a picture of something in my life, anything you might be curious about. I’ll take the picture and post it.
I moved on Monday night. Everything went well with the move and I am so happy to live in my new apartment. My roommates are very nice, I live with two girls, Anaïs (from France) and Nice (from Argentina). Jordi, the main tenant is hardly ever around so he doesn’t really count but he seems like a really nice guy as well. In a month, Nice is moving out so we [Anaïs and I] will have to find a new roommate then, hopefully we will make a good decision. I love my room and that I live so close to school! On Tuesday I went to IKEA with my roomie Anaïs, and got some things for my room that I still needed or wanted, and today I actually went there another time to get a couple more things. Now my room really feels like home!
One of the bad things about living in downtown Barcelona is the noise, and I often wake up early from the noise but I can deal with it, I have ear plugs that I have used once. They are doing some work on the facade of my house at the moment, and they start working early (around 8am), but I am sure I will get used to it and living right in the center of everything has many advantages as well.
By the way, I found out that I also have a balcony. I had no idea because there is a scaffold right outside the house and Anaïs didn’t tell me, but I opened my windows & shutters the other day and found out we have a balcony out there! The balcony is useless right now (because of the scaffolding, and there is lots of dirt on the balcony too), but I think they should be done in a few months (or so I hope), and it has gotten too cold to sit on the balcony anyway, but next spring and summer it will be amazing to be able to sit outside and enjoy the sun.
Since I moved I have also been feeling so much better. I have been socializing more again and enjoying it very much. Wednesday Carmen and Anna came here and we cooked an amazing dinner and had a really great evening. Thursday I met up for drinks with a few people from my German class (did I mention I am taking a German class, “Holocaust and Literature”, just out of interest in the topic, as you all probably know I do not study German) which was fun.
Tonight I actually spent with cleaning the kitchen, it is my turn this week and I decided to do it very thoroughly and cleaned all of the cupboards and the fridge as well. There was loads of expired food from long-gone roommates, so I threw out a lot and now we have some more space in the cupboards again.
Well, so much for text, on to the pictures! Allow me to show you around mi habitación [my room] and el piso [the apartment] a bit. :)

My bed and nightstand. The posters on the wall are all from IKEA. For some reason [an error in the system I believe] I only paid €.99 for the red one. As you can see I have an extra mattress for visitors which is great.

My desk and shelf. And another poster from IKEA, it goes so well with the color of the wall.
So my past two weeks were quite the rollercoaster … I told my landlord I would be moving at the end of the month, after which he apparently decided he does not need to be nice, respectful, or considerate anymore. Well, all in all it is a very long story, and I will write about it some time (I have created a separate blog to write about it, and it is right now a work-in-progress, but I will share the link when it is finished), right now I just want to give y’all a short update on what I’m up to. Last weekend was probably one of the crappiest of this year so far but I am doing much better now. I have found a new (and better and cheaper) place to live. I will probably move in about a week. The new place is in an apartment only 5-10 minutes walking distance from the university. My room will actually be bigger than the one I currently have but at the same time cheaper. I will share the apartment with three people, though one is only there like 2 days out of the week. The other two are a French girl and an Argentinian girl. I am not going to live by the beach anymore but that is okay as I will be saving roughly €100 a month on rent and metro costs and the apartment is very central (10 minutes from Pl. Catalunya). And it will be with people my age. The Argentinian smokes apparently which usually would be a big no for me but the French girl is just as bothered by it, and the Argentinian is leaving in December anyway, so after that we can decide that we want a non-smoking roommate.
Anyway, I spent most of the last week looking for a new room, and going to classes. I stayed at the library until it closed so I only have to go home to sleep essentially (and I will keep doing that until I move), to spend as little time as possible in the apartment. It was really exhausting last week, but now that I have found a place to live, I can be a bit more relaxed. I actually found it through a coincidence, a girl in one of my classes (she is the French girl I mentioned) noticed I was looking for a room online in between classes and told me one of her roommates was going to move out soon. I looked at it the next day and got it.
I got an extension for my term paper that I have to write for one of my English classes back home, because of the housing situation, as I would have had to finish it yesterday but had no time to write 15 pages. I will be able to focus on that now, and thankfully the professor was so understanding and gave me that extension. I would have hated losing a semester’s work because of my crappy roommate/landlord.
So… yeah I have really not been doing to well lately, though I am a lot better now that my situation is about to be resolved soon. I cannot wait to move. If I am lucky I can move on Sunday already, but at any rate it shouldn’t be much later than a few days after Sunday.
I have not really been up to much else, this situation has been occupying my mind and I have not been doing much else lately. Friday was nice though, I met up with Carmen and we sent the afternoon in the sun. The weather has been getting cooler here though the afternoons are usually still sunny enough to sit outside and enjoy the warmth. In the evening I looked at the apartment I will be moving to and then had dinner with Anais (the French girl, my new roommate) and a friend of hers.
