My cellphone contract is up in mid-June. I am going to get a new contract with Vodafone and for that I need to pick a new cellphone. I have narrowed down my choices to two phones, one I have been eying for a few months now and another I just discovered a week ago. Anyway, I cannot make up my mind, as usual, and I would really appreciate input from y’all.
And before you ask, yes, I have considered that I will only be here for another three months before I leave for Spain for 5-6 months (and maybe even 10 if I decide to extend another semester), but Vodafone has this Reiseversprechen, an excellent roaming deal meaning you only pay €.75/call (for calls up to 60 minutes!) extra on top of the regular minute prices in other European countries. I used my phone when I was in Spain last year and I only paid about €5 extra that month. It will allow me to keep in touch with my parents and friends for relatively cheap, also compared to calling cards.
Anyway, back to the original point of the post. I am considering two cellphones, the Nokia 7390 (in powder pink - I do not really like the combination of black and bronze here) and the Nokia E65 (not sure yet which color, both look good to me).
Here is an overview of the features (in German, but the Nokia site should have the same information in English): 7390 and E65. Basic differences:the 7390 is a tri-band UMTS phone with a 3MP camera, mp3 player, radio; the E65 is a quad-band UMTS phone with a 2MP camera, mp3 player, no radio but WLAN as well as Symbian OS.
I like both phones. Originally I only wanted to get a clamshell phone and I usually am not a fan of slider phones but this one actually really appeals to me optically. And both come with a pouch, so they would be protected from scratches anyway. My problem with the 7390 is the colors. I do not like the bronze black one - not a big fan of black cellphones and I just don’t think the black and bronze go together. The powder pink is cute, but that is exactly what is also putting some doubts in my head. Do I really want a cute pink cellphone? I like pink, I can wear pink, but we are talking about a phone here, not clothes. It is not all pink and that is really the only reason I am even considering, but it is still kind of girly anyway. (Though undoubtedly there are more girly phones out there.) The E65 is more grown-up, it is elegant and I like the way it looks (there are many out there that look too … cold or something to me, too angular).
Do any of you have any input on either of the phones? I want to order the new phone in about two weeks, so I need to make up my mind. I know, I am making kind of a big deal about this, it is just a cellphone, but at the same time it is a gadget you use every day, so you want to like it, and not be annoyed with it after a while, right?

Well, I have to say that I actually like the 7390 very much. I think it’s not too girly, because the pink is really light and it just looks very pretty. I do usually like slider phones, but the E65 is almost a little “boring” in my opinion.
Yeah, I know that is probably not going to help a lot, but I just wanted to give you my thoughts.
Thanks for your comment. :) I am actually now about 90% positive that I will be getting the E65 (in mocca silver) - the main reason being that it has WLAN, and since many cafés offer free wireless that can actually be quite useful I think. I have checked the reviews on Amazon and they are all really good. The 7390 would be a little more unique, not your average cellphone, but that can be a bad thing (which is why I was not 100% convinced - I might get sick of the colors/patterning after a while).
