March is here
Posted by Viviane in Books, Family, Friends, Life, Movies & TV, School, TravelIt is March already! I didn’t mean to neglect my blog for as long as I did, but actually the past three weeks have been rather quiet, so I would not have had much to talk about anyway. I have been working and just relaxing.
Last week was Caty’s 21st birthday and we went out to the Villa, a bar in Heidelberg, and had a blast. I didn’t know any of her friends before that night, but we all got along really well, and had a fun night. I had four cocktails, a Melonball, a Mojito, a Frozen Strawberry Margarita and a Planter’s Punch. All were very good and I was really excited about the Margarita because it reminded me of the strawberry smoothie I used to get t Freshen’s Smoothie Co in Norman. I was never able to find a smoothie here that was frozen and just plain strawberry, and now I found a cocktail that is a lot like it. The four cocktails seemed like a great idea Thursday night. Friday morning not so much. I worked at 0830, and when I got back home, I took a nap. After I woke up from the nap, I felt a lot more hungover than before the nap, it was not fun at all.
Tonight Sheela and I went to Mandy’s for dinner. It was a good time as always, we both love eating there. Afterwards we went to MediaMarkt and I bought a microwave. Yes, you read that right. After almost two years of saying I want to buy one, I actually did. It was a bit of a pain to carry it home, as it was heavier than I expected but I made it home and already used the microwave to make popcorn. Mmmm… I also bought some Hot Pockets tonight, because now that I have a microwave, they are a quick and good meal. At MediaMarkt I also bought two movies - Y Tu Mamá También and City of God; both were on sale, and the first is a Mexican movie (and I need to watch as many movies in Spanish as I can to improve my understanding of Spanish), and the second is Brazilian and just sounded interesting. I also want to get Amores Perros and The Motorcycle Diaries (also with Gael García Bernal, like Y Tu Mamá…) but I will order these from Amazon. I am not yet sure if I want to get Mar Adentro or Volver along with it (to get free shipping, but I have wanted to get both movies on DVD anyway). I definitely want to get Volver but it costs €19 right now so I am thinking I may be able to get it cheaper at a store when it comes out next week. I’ll see. I have been buying so many DVDs lately, but I have been in a movie mood, and I always get them on sale, so I usually don’t spend more than €10 on one (usually even less).
Tomorrow I am working and in the evening I am going to see Princesas at the theater with Bea, a Spanish movie which they are showing in Spanish with German subtitles (perfect!). I am glad they show some movies in their original language version here in Heidelberg, though it still leaves a lot to be desired. I wish we had a theater here like the Cinema theater in Munich. That would be a dream. I miss so many movies that I want to see because they only show the dubbed versions here and I don’t want to put myself through that.
Speaking of Munich, I am going to Munich until April 10th, on Saturday next week (the 17th). Can’t wait. I will not stay in Munich for the entire time, though, as my parents and I want to visit our relatives up north in Osnabrück during the week before Easter. Originally we wanted to go to the Harz, but my uncle said there is no point in that as it will be too cold and rainy to go hiking. I am not too disappointed as you might imagine. ;) I was kind of looking forward to seeing Goslar and all those places again, but hiking … probably still not very much my thing.
And we will definitely be coming back to Munich on or before Good Friday which is good (haha!) because Tina will be home for the Easter weekend, so I definitely want to be in Munich for that weekend. Tina also told me she will not move to Iserlohn until Monday the 19th, so I will also see her before she leaves (as I’ll get there on Saturday). She was on vacation for the past two weeks, and I really missed her. I mean, she is almost always far away but usually we talk online or on the phone every day. Her moving to I. is also kind of weird. It is actually closer than Munich or Passau, but it feels further away. Probably because in my heart I still count the miles from Munich. ;) I just wish I could see her more often when I am home, because I probably won’t see her until August after that.
By the way, I am now a week away from my due date for that one termpaper, and I still have not started. I went to the library to get literature two weeks ago, but since then I have been absolutely unproductive. In fact, if you looked up the word procrastinator in the dictionary, you’d probably find a picture of me next to the definition. I am such a retard sometimes, I know I need to get started but I never actually do. Well, here is to the hope that I can still finish the paper in time. I know it is possible, because once I have started writing, it usually flows, it’s just the getting started that is the issue.
By the way, I have been reading a book that is really great: The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafón. It is such a captivating story, just an amazing book. If you haven’t read it yet, you should!
Anyway, I hope you’re all doing well. I am very happy that spring is near. The air feels so different, and it’s a lot milder. I actually enjoy being outside again. Not to mention the days are getting longer, love it. Well, I’ll try to update again soon. I don’t think I’ll take three weeks again, so until then…

yay, there’s a new entry from you.
i’m moving soon, and i envy you soooo much for having your own microwave hehe. and did i read right? we do have hotpockets in germany? yum, that is a thing quite high on my missing list….
oh yeah and when reading about the cocktails, i was already thinking (while reading the names), wow that’s a lot for thursday night hehe… oh well, you survived it ;)
have fun in munich!
Yeah, we have Hot Pockets. They were introduced like right around when I came back here from the States (summer 05), I was pretty excited as well. I never had one though until the other day because I didn’t have a microwave. They are by Maggi here and the box looks pretty much the same way it does in the States.
Yeah, I think it probably helped that I had some food along with the drinks, considering the circumstances, I was not actually doing too horribly on Friday, just a constant nausea and headache (but not really a bad one). ;)
We’ve been wanting a microwave for quite some time now… so I feel you. :) Sometimes I wish we had one to heat up some milk really quick.
Yummy, those cocktails sound delicious. I have to admit I am a new fan of “happy hour” here in Germany. We went to Berlin last weekend and each cocktail was only 4,50 during happy hour. I was in heaven!
Have fun in Munich and at your relatives. And good luck on your paper!
Yeah. I think I will mostly be using it to heat up left-overs, as well as popcorn & Hot Pockets. Hehe…
I got it for €60 at MediaMarkt, and it even has a grill, I am really satisfied with it so far.
The bar we went to has a happy hour starting at 1800 (and ending when they close), all cocktails are €4 each. At a bar I went to this week with a friend they have their happy hour like 1900-2200 and all cocktails are €4.50. I love it.
Thank you! I have still not gotten started on it, but I do want to, tonight.
