Tonight I met with Nastasie and her friend Steve who had come visit (he’s also from Canada), and we went to the Christmas market at University Square, to have some mulled wine. I only drank punch because I don’t drink alcohol any more but that was really good. I kept the mug because it was cute, and it wasn’t that expensive either. We then went bar hopping, although we got stuck at the second, but I think that still qualifies as bar hopping. ;) We first went to a German bar, and then to an Irish pub.

First thing I saw when we came in was a whole lotta burnt orange on a screen. Yeah! They were showing the Lonestar Showdown. Apparently there is a channel on digital cable that shows only Northern American sports. First time I saw college football on TV since the last season (December 2004). It was Texas (how funny I was wearing my Oklahoma sweater) but heck, it was college football! TX beat TX A&M (not a big surprise to me) - I am not sure whether to find that good or bad, cos it’s both Texas, so whatever. But I was sooo excited to be able to see college football on TV here. Watched some of the game, and talked, and then I decided that I had to eat dinner somewhere so we went to Mandy’s. Ate some very delicious but very Weight Watchers incompatible food. Oh well, I guess I need that every now and then, and Mandy’s is just too good to completely avoid.

I got back home around 0100. I had a really really good time with them. It was funny how Steve analyzed my accent, and he said it sounds like I’m from somewhere in the mid US (I guess that works, Oklahoma isn’t really that south, but it’s not the midwest either), and that I could pass for American. Haha, yeah, I don’t know. I am pretty certain I wouldn’t be able to pass for an Okie though.

Well, other than that I haven’t been doing much. I went clothes shopping yesterday (bought new pants because my old ones have gotten too big). I usually don’t do that much during the week because school is really stressing me out. I am fine with the workload, I just don’t have much energy for other things. I got my first two grades back, and both are As which I can live with perfectly fine. :)

Anyways, I am going to end this here with two pictures from tonight:

Today is Thanksgiving. Last year I spent Thanksgiving weekend in Dallas, TX with my friend Colette and her family. It was a really great experience. I ate so much food I had never eaten before, it was so good. :) All the traditional Thanksgiving food, and the pies… I would kill for a piece of lemon pie now! But I guess it’s a good thing I am not celebrating Thanksgiving this year. Wouldn’t go too well with Weightwatchers, heh.
I remember I was still able to go outside in just a t-shirt, no sweater. Today it was snowing in Heidelberg.

This year I am back home in Germany, where we don’t celebrate Thanksgiving (it should be obvious, if you think about what Americans celebrate on Thanksgiving but some still think the rest of the world celebrates it as well). Today is just another Thursday for me. I went to class, and I ate potatoes with serrano ham for dinner.

I am glad I got to experience the tradition of celebrating Thanksgiving in the United States last year, and I hope, one day I will again.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving, my American friends! I miss you guys so much!!!
